History and Development
The airport was officially inaugurated in 1976 by the late Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, the former Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.In 2007, RAK Airways commenced operations with the airport as its hub. Following a suspension due to the global financial crisis, the airline briefly resumed operations in 2010 before ceasing permanently in 2013.In 2014, Air Arabia began commercial operations from Ras Al Khaimah, serving destinations including Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Bangladesh. Ras Al Khaimah International Airport was designated as an Air Arabia hub for an initial period of ten years, with provisions for extension.As part of its growth strategy, the airport diversified its focus to include cargo operations, particularly supporting businesses operating within the Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone, achieving strong year-on-year growth.
