The story of GEMS Education began in 1959, when two dedicated teachers, KS and Mariamma Varkey, moved from Kerala, India, to the United Arab Emirates in search of opportunity. Recognising a growing demand for quality English-language education, teaching began modestly from a family home. This small beginning laid the foundation for what would later become a global education network. In 1968, the opening of Our Own English High School, Dubai marked a significant milestone, followed by continued expansion under the visionary leadership of Sunny Varkey.
